The Koppal Toy Cluster (KTC), the first-of-its-kind toy manufacturing cluster in the country, is all set to commence operations in March this year. KTC, being set up by Aequs Infra (a group company of Belagavi-based Aequs Pvt. Ltd.), will be spread over 400 acres of land.

As published in a news report – six toy and toy-component makers have signed MoU with Aequs Infra. Moreover, three other players including Viscon Polymers that is a manufacturer and exporter of custom rubber moulded products, have begun the development of their production facilities at KTC.

According to Mr. Aravind Melligeri, Chairman and CEO of Aequs, at least three manufacturing units are expected to be operational by March 2022 while many other top-tier toy brands have expressed their interest in initiating their production units at KTC.

The upcoming toy cluster will consist of the entire value chain of the toy sector right from toy making, production of packaging, toolmaking, paint making, developing electronics, and other accessories. With an estimated investment of over INR 4,000 crore, the cluster is also expected to create more than 25,000 direct jobs (mostly for women in North Karnataka) and over a lakh indirect jobs.

Upon completion, the cluster will contain more than 100 large and small manufacturing units in SEZ and domestic tariff area (DTA) for exports and domestic markets. Further, KTC would also include an incubation centre meant for toy manufacturing and ancillary activities.
