Hamleys has started its second store in Kolkata which is located at South City Mall, Kolkata. The brand celebrated the store launch with a two-day meet and greet event with popular characters and mascots- Hamley Bear, Hattie Bear, Chhota Bheem, Chutki and Emmet. Another store in the city is at Quest Mall, Park Circus. The toy retail brand had celebrated the milestone of opening its 75th store for the Indian market, in Ludhiana earlier this year.
It was in 2010 that the first store for the brand was started in India, that is in Phoenix Mills, Mumbai. India now tops as the nation having the largest number of Hamleys stores across the world as there are about 32 cities in the country having these stores.
Hamleys, which was started in the year 1760, enjoys a massive market presence around the globe. It was founded by William Hamley as “Noahs Ark” in London and is one of the oldest and largest toys retailers having its presence in 25 countries around the world. The flagship store in UK at Regent Street has seven floors, with more than 50,000 lines of toys with different categories of toys on each floor while its recently started largest worldwide flagship store is in Beijing spanning over 115,000sq ft.
