Sebamed Planning to Start Local Manufacturing, New Price Points, and Smaller Variants

The German brand has a range of products in the baby care segment. In addition to the local manufacturing-plans, the brand is also considering investing in brand building and network expansion to grow 10 times in the next five years.

Within its multi-faceted strategy to ramp up its presence in India, the premium personal care company Sebamed is exploring the option to start manufacturing in India. The Germany-based company is also considering introducing its products at different price points and smaller variants in a bid to grow 10 times in the next five years.

At present, Sebamed is considered in the premium segment in India, with an array of products in the baby care and personal care segments. It currently imports the products from Germany.

Speaking to BusinessLine on the possibility of setting up manufacturing plants in India, Shashi Ranjan, India Head, Sebamed asserted that the Company is considering different price points as well as rolling out smaller variants. Also, touching upon the future plans of the Company, he informed that Sebamed plans to invest in brand building and network expansion to grow 10 times in the next five years and they will get into newer consumer segments.

In 2018, Sebamed started FMCG sales through traditional channels, and it has grown five-fold since then, said Ranjan. The current revenue of the company is around Rs. 400 crore in MRP terms. As a part of its plan to growth plan, reach expansion is a major strategy, with plans to expand from the current 47 cities it is present into 100 cities by the end of this year, especially in general trade.
