Nike, Inc has announced the launch of maternity wear collection – for mothers and mother- to-be, that is Nike (M) collection consisting of four products – a pullover, a sports bra, a tank and leggings – designed with the needs of mothers in mind. For instance, the sports bra is designed to be adjustable to allow for nursing, while the leggings have an adjustable waistband that worn up or down as the pregnancy progresses.
Carmen Zolman, Senior Design Director for apparel innovation at Nike Inc, said in a statement that: “The more we listened to expecting mothers and postpartum mothers, the more we learned, reworked and innovated through inclusive design.”
The Company says that the research and development for Nike (M) began three years ago, and the line was conceived and led by moms and moms-to-be on the design team. The team used data it collected from more than 150,000 analytics of women around the world to determine how the body grows during pregnancy. It also consulted with 30 female athletes who were either pregnant or post-partum in the design process.
Zolman further states that: “It’s the project of a lifetime to work in lockstep with all kinds of mothers to bring to life a capsule that truly supports women’s relationship with sport during such a transformative time in their lives.”
The new collection also aligns with the company’s sustainability goal; with pieces being made from a range of around 78 to 88 per cent recycled polyester.
While the leggings have a stretchy section of fabric around the stomach that can either be used to expose the wearer’s bump or cover it up, the t-shirt has extra material at the front to allow for growing room.
Headquartered in Oregon, US and started in 1964, Nike Inc is one of the world’s largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment.
