The development institute of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME-DI) has extended support to the MSMEs associations in Trichy.

With the aim to encourage the domestic manufacturing of toys, the development institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME-DI) has reached out to the MSMEs associations in Trichy with financial and technical support.
In the proposed scheme, the MSMEs will be provided with the required guidance on additive manufacturing (production using 3D printers) and reverse-engineering techniques to design and produce advanced and intelligently designed toys.
As per a report by ET, in the scheme, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) across the country will be the implementing agency providing technical support required for the MSMEs to manufacture toys on a large scale.
Mr. S Dharmaselvan, Joint director, MSME-DI, said that the subsidy for technical and machinery upgradation for the production of toys will be provided by the Union ministry.
While districts like Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu already have toy manufacturing units that can focus on the design scheme, Trichy district has a robust MSME presence. This presents diverse opportunities for the existing MSMEs to scale up their presence utilizing technical support from the educational institutes in their respective regions.
In the words of Mr. N Kanagasabapathy, Chairman, Trichy Trade Centre, “Prospects are high for the Trichy-based MSMEs to manufacture toys made of metal and plastic materials.”

Additionally, the domestic manufacturing of toys will also reduce the cost of the products that are being imported. As per the MSMEs, the price-points of locally produced toys will be 40 to 50 percent lower than the imported toys. Also, the micro and small industries can get about 60 to 70 percent of the design intervention cost as a subsidy.
